erfect People needed! Does everyone understand that this is where we are headed as a society? We just had the 91st Academy Awards with no host. Why? Well, the short answer is because they couldn’t find anyone who didn’t have any skeletons in their Twitter closet, or who didn’t Trick-or-Treat as a member of a different race 30 years ago. Look, there’s a difference between truly doing hateful and mean-spirited bigoted things on purpose and then doing things because you were young and stupid. Here’s a tip, everyone was young and dumb at some point in their lives. I guess not everyone has heard the advice saying, “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” NOTE- purposely choosing the glass houses metaphor over the pot vs. kettle being …well you get the point.

The long and short of all of this hate and vitriol is simply that not only is it a good thing for the planet that the robots are coming, but also for humans. We hate us. We do. We have a become a group of beings dead-set on finding and reporting on each other for every bad deed we can identify. This started over an award ceremony centered around ART. Can’t we focus on creating art and not finding fault?

The saddest part of this is that it is utterly pathetic. Who decided all of a sudden that humans were to be perfect and without flaws? Yes, racism, bigotry, and systemic societal imbalances should always be fought. However, aren’t we smart enough to recognize real and present dangers vs. historical accidents, missteps and just poor judgement?

This year, Kevin Hart chose to back out of hosting after some 8-10 year old homophobic tweets were dug up. Lest the perfect Oscar folks forget, their host of the last two Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel (of whom I am a fan), used to have a show, “The Man Show”, that ended every episode with a segment called ‘Girls Jumping on Trampolines’! The girls were in bikinis. You get the gist. But, that’s ok. Apparently!

Back to the Oscars, the host isn’t needed and this last show proved it. It’s overrated and ridiculous, but it just shines a light on the corner in which we have painted ourselves. If you’re not perfect, without sin, mistakes, or judgement errors, well, then you’re done. That is a scary society of which to be a part.

But, smile and create…without harming anyone or anything, ever.
