Mark your trip once with chalk

hy do people play with spray paint? (movie trailer voice) In a world, where everyone has access to FitBits, SmartPhones, pedometers, digital maps and watches, why, WHY do some of us feel the need to spray paint distances on public pavements? We deal with plenty of graffiti as it is today. Have you sat at a railroad crossing? Boxcars, tankers, grain bins, vehicle haulers, there’s not even room for graffiti anymore with all of the …graffiti.

I digress, I mentioned the other day I have been frequenting a converted, speaking of railroads, train track that serves as a biking, running, and walking trail. It is clearly marked with posts showing mile markers.

But, that’s not good enough for some people who want to start keeping track of there own race, walk, or whatever. Every, quarter, mile.

Oh sure, the park district tries to keep up with some of the graffiti by blacking it out, but who has the time or resources to black out all of the painted penises out there?

Moreover, who, WHO has to make such HUGE, RED quarter mile segments? Magoo’s Mile Marauders? Are they to be seen from the air? And did you really need to paint one for .5 on the wooden bridge? What?

COME ON! Do better people. Mark YOUR trip once, with chalk, pick out some natural markers and be done with it. That’s what the Army did when they were out one Saturday in full gear with M16’s and packs. Come on Magoo!
