MMeM, Vol. 9 Issue 17 – Office place

Whew! I for one am relieved that this merger is happening. Office Depot buys, or merges with OfficeMax. I can’t tell you how many conversations I have had with people or co-workers where you or the other people say, “…at OfficeMax, no I mean Office Depot.” or vice versa. Inevitably, if you ever mentioned one, you’d say the other.

Then there would be some independent thinker, some 3rd party voting Dr. Pepper swilling yahoo, who blows everyone in the conversation away with such clear concise thinking by saying, “Staples.” Gosh, that WAS easy after all.

Upon researching this “merger” a bit, it seems to me that this is really just going to be another instance of Chicago taking it on the chin. See, Office Depot is based in Boca Raton, FL with a huge state of the art headquarters facility and NO state income tax. On the other hand, OfficeMax is based in Naperville, IL, a major Chicago suburb. So, just like the billy goat, The Cubs, the 2nd City nickname, and oh yeah the recently re-named WILLIS Tower, Chicago once again gets poked in the eye.

The price a city pays for 6 NBA Titles is a decade long free fall into despair. Sheesh!
