What was going on before now?

The pandemic has brought many things to light. While we separate, we come to together in our loneliness. Hundreds of small business and huge corporations have changed their messages to reflect the current world view. Although, through this inside-out togetherness, it does make one stop and ponder at times.

For instance, pizza chains. We have renewed urgencies for sources of sustenance for food other than what we burnt on our grills. What is either an advertising hiccup or a reversal of prior dishonest practices, pizzerias are touting “contactless pizzas” to your door. “Touchless from oven to you”.

Masked pizza preparers and delivery workers who NEVER TOUCH YOUR FOOD. This sounds really reassuring and troubling at the same time. It took a pandemic to clarify this? Or, to make this the practice?

Ok, so maybe they are selling nothing more than peace of mind during a global pandemic. There’s a seal on the box now proving that the driver hasn’t picked off toppings. Driver then sets the pizza box on your stoop and steps away requiring no USELESS signature scribble (finally!). Glad the Unabomber isn’t still around. Anyway, I get it now, to a degree.

What was going on before now? Was it like finger painting through the cheese and grease on down the assembly line right out to Dylan’s idling Honda Civic?

Surely not.

Right?
