MMeM, Vol. 3 Issue 6
Ok. As everyone knows, I’m a life long Die Hard Cub Fan. I used to blog under another moniker, “Cubfan Behind Enemy Lines” when I lived in Missouri. I’m going to spare the reader any further set up and jump right in.
Yesterday it was announced that the Cubs signed a new left handed hitting right fielder from Japan. You can read the press release here.
His name is…(drumroll please)…Kosuke Fukudome.
Now, as I see it, his last name could be a source of many pronunciation pitfalls. Basically, with the insertion of a well placed “c”, simply saynig his last name is practically not allowed under current FCC regulations. Can’t you see the phonetic spelling now?
Fuk-u-do-me. Or maybe you say it, “Fook-u-do-me”. Great, now you sound like you’re cursing in a crappy Japanese accent. Vulgar AND culturally insensitive!
Yikes. As if Cub fans don’t have enough problems already.
