MMeM, Vol 8 Issue 45 – 30 for ??

What, are you going to try and roll with 50 for 30 next!

ESPN has definitely hit another home run with their series 30 for 30. This series was originally spawned at the 30 year anniversary of the ESPN network with the intention of highlighting 30 different inspiring or super special sports documentaries that occurred during that 30 years of programming for ESPN.

It’s pretty common water cooler talk for someone to say, “Did you see that 30 for 30, “The Greatest That Never Was? or the 30 for 30 about Bo Jackson?” People either nod affirmatively or no with a bit of apprehension and regret for having missed those in the 30 segment series.

But, people then think, “well I’ll catch it on re-run cause those 30 for 30’s are on like all the time!”

Question. Do you know how many 30 for 30’s there have actually been?

68.

Sixty-Eight installments of 30 for 30. I suppose it’s a safe assumption that once they reached 30 and saw the popularity of what they had created that they decided to keep them going. Well, if you’re going to keep a series going you have to keep the same name, that’s Marketing 101. What, are you going to try and roll with 50 for 30 next? Still it’s pretty remarkable that no one has seemed to pick up on this at all. Seems everyone is pretty much just like me in that they just assume that there’s another one they just haven’t seen yet…every week, every month, for more than 3 years past the 30 year anniversary.

Hey, math was never a jock’s trademark anyway. Roll-on Marketing, Roll-on.
