MMeM, Vol.11 Issue 8 – Even I feel small.

BOOM I just blew my MIND.

I‘ve always found space and NASA type things interesting. So, the other day there was an announcement that some scientist-astronomer types had apparently psuedo-discovered a massive black hole way back in time. Yeah, they’d lost me too and after I came to and regained conciousness I read the story. Anyway, they went on to say that this black hole was so huge that they estimate that was some 12 BILLION times the size of our sun.

Light from the black hole took 12.9 billion years to reach Earth, so astronomers see the object as it was 900 million years after the Big Bang.

That’s more than 32 quadrillion miles wide. The one thing in the universe bigger than our national debt.

12 Billion. You could almost imagine Dr. Evil making that amount up himself, except he     would have said 12 MILLION and THAT would have been too large for any human to conceptualize. Back to the news story, a black hole 12 billion times the size of our sun? That got my very jaded, tired-head, weary and worn mind thinking…a little, and well, I had a bit of a modern man’s epiphany.

What if this enormous impossible to perceive “black hole” was so huge that we are all already in it? What if it is, in fact, SPACE as we all know it?

AH HAH! I just blew your mind huh? Maybe not, but you get my drift right? Probably not.

I was curious about that number, 32, 560,872,000,000,000, so naturally, I Googled it. I don’t think I have ever, EVER Googled anything and had GOOGLE come back with………”No Results”. Wow. Now, this story has my simple mind’s attention.

Anyway, the enormousness infinity of space has always fascinated me and I kind of like to use it as a bit of brain bender whenever I want to re-prove God or something else unprovable to myself. It’s like this, if you say to someone that the universe is infinite which means that it goes on forever, that LITERALLY means it never ends. Many people will at times balk on that a bit and be like, well yeah, I guess, but there has to be some kind of boundary or kind of an “end” or some sort. That’s when I say to myself, or to my imaginary advisory in this imaginary discussion, “Ok, well at the end of the universe, the outer boundary, the great wall of the furthest reaches of the realm….what’s on the other side?

BOOM! I just blew MY mind.
