MMeM, Vol.8 Issue 7

There’s no response or or argument to be had.

Have you ever noticed how some words or phrases just end conversations. It’s like all of a sudden someone says the magic word and boom, there’s no response or argument to be had. There are only a handful of words that have this power.

There is no rhyme or reason as to how these words get their power, but there’s no denying it. Sometimes the words or phrases have a complexity about them that is not able to be verified. One person in the conversation usually suspects a fib or a lie but can’t call the other on it.

Conversation stop words:

  • Wind sheer
  • Black ice
  • Someone is said to have had a fever
  • Waterplaning
  • A house is haunted by previous resident who perished there
  • Paranormal
  • Snowstorm
  • Heat lightening
  • Athletic scout at some one’s game to see them
  • Used to be able to dunk
  • Solved a Rubik’s cube with no witnesses who are still around to ask
  • Any somewhat impressive SAT or ACT score
  • A previously unreported sexual assault
  • Officially reported number of sexual partners
  • Tryout for a professional sports team
  • Ever seen a ghost
