Really? Is this what we have come to as a civilized society? Do you think that the Navajo or the Sioux (real <del>NATIVE AMERICANS</del> or people who lived here BEFORE WE DID) named days of the years with color adjectives? I doubt it.

But, while we’re on the topic and “Green Monday” as it were, which is supposedly the best shopping day of the year on the Internet. Yeah, I don’t quite understand how it wrestled that title away from “Cyber Monday” either, but that’s a different debate involving far different colors not appropriate for this blog’s audience.

Black Friday, Green Monday, 50-Shades of Grey Thanksgiving Thursday, they all remind me of a color my dad always used to say. He didn’t say it because it was important or necessarily correct, but because he liked to say it. He once owned this 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a black Landau Top on it that he said was, and I quote because I heard it 100’s of times, “Baby Shit Brown”. Yeah, I don’t know either. I don’t know why a person just couldn’t say “brown” but HAD to add the words, “Baby Shit” to elaborate the color “Brown”. But, he always did. Still does to this day if that car comes up in conversation. It’s like the breakfast meal he got all the time when he was in the Army. He didn’t like this meal, but rather he just liked saying it. “Shit on a Shingle”. To this day, I don’t know what constitutes a “Shit on a Shingle”. I have no idea. None.

I don’t know why I tell this story, but I guess all the colored days got my mind wandering and it came up. I know that once, I referred to someone’s breakfast that they had prepared for a group of people, including me, as “Shit on a Shingle”. Yes, it was embarrassing and nope, no one said that their parents used to say the same thing. Maybe I tried to release that term on the wrong occasion or dish? I don’t know. What I do know is that is NOT a way to compliment someone else’s cooking.

Anyway, tomorrow I declare it is “Baby Shit Brown Tuesday” for all the crappy things that happen to anyone during the HOLIDAY SEASON.
