MMeM, Vol. 9 Issue 92 – Whoops!

Whoops, that didn’t happen either .

Saw today that one of the in-famous “End of the World” prognosticators died December 15, 2013. Of course, I’m speaking of Harold Camping who unsuccessfully predicted the end of the world 4 times.

Harold tried multiple times to predict the end of the world and get the entire planet in a frenzy of doomsday prepping. The incorrect prediction of his that got the most press was for May 21, 2011. When that didn’t happen, Harold publicly said that due to a calculation error on his part the real end of days date was actually supposed to be 5 months later on October 21, 2011. Whoops, that didn’t happen either.

There have been a multitude of false End of World predictions over the centuries. From Wikipedia there have been some 196 predictions from 634 BC by various Romans to 12/31/2012 by Warren Jeffs. Harold had 4 false prophecies and as far as public knowledge goes per Wikipedia, there have been failed prognosticators from Harold Camping to Charles Manson, Nostradamus, Jerry Falwell, and Isaac Newton.

See, part of the reason I think these false prognosticators try this is to get their names listed with the likes of Nostradamus and Isaac Newton. See this blog post as case in point. Well played crazies, well played. Most of these crazies are some sort of religious zealot. What do they say when they get to the pearly gates and God is like, “Yeah, so about your “pReDiCtIoNs”…”

I think my favorites have to be those yet to not happen. Specifically, 2280, 5 Billion, and the best, year 22 Billion. Because honestly, who would ever be around to even know about that prediction? In fact, I predict the end of the world in an even, and neat year 10 Billion. Boom!
