MMeM, Vol. 10, Issue 29 – What’d he say?

(cue record scratch )

Look, I misspeak probably more than I speak “correctly” as it were. What’s more, I find that I misunderstand what others say more often than that. So, the other day I heard or saw where the UK’s PM David Cameron was talking about the most recent beheading by ISIS, or ISIL if you’re a FOX News viewer, the 3rd such barbaric act in the past few weeks. I don’t normally comment on anything to do with government, but I have to make an exception in this case or maybe not as these a-holes are the furthest thing from a government in human history.

Anyway, Cameron was talking about how this must be stopped. This group cannot claim their acts are some form of religious statement as NO religion would or should encourage such barbaric acts. Among other well-founded statements he said, “We are a peaceful people. We do not seek out confrontation, but we need to understand we cannot ignore this threat to our security and that to our allies.”

Here here! I thought. He continued,  “…There is no option of keeping our heads down that would make us safe … ”

Wait, what? What was that he just said? Are we take that literally or was that a mis-step in speech, an unfortunate choice of words? Keepin our heads down? Now if this was a speech against terrorists highjacking planes and flying them into skyscrapers killing thousands or detonating car bombs in busy shopping areas then the “keeping our heads down” comment goes off with nary a hitch.

But, we are talking about BEHEADINGs right? In which case, well, I don’t even need to spell it out any further. Oh and by the way the “L” in ISIL stands for Levant if you were interested, not Lebanon directly and not Larry either.

Again, I could very well be missing something, nothing, or everything entirely. Like reading more into something that isn’t there. I do that from time to time to be sure.
