MMeM, Vol. 9 Issue 93 – Enough already.

…nothing more and far more less .

Really? The year is 2013 and STILL the 1st Days of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter continue to be reported by main stream media. Enough already. This was first popularized by the publishing of The Farmer’s Almanac. Yeah I’m excited too.

Does everyone realize that the 1st day of Winter in North America is also the 1st day of Summer in Australia? Yeah, you did. It’s all about the orbiting of the sun and the tilt of the Earth on its axis. Done, there that’s it. That’s all there is to it. But today, the only benefit anyone gets from these dates are the news cycle soundbites. Other than saying one of the solstices is the longest or shortest day of the year, that’s it, nothing more and far more less.

soltices

Seasons of 2013:
SPRING EQUINOX March 20, 7:02 A.M. EDT
SUMMER SOLSTICE June 21, 1:04 A.M. EDT
FALL EQUINOX September 22, 4:44 P.M. EDT
WINTER SOLSTICE December 21, 12:11 P.M. EST

That’s all well and good but there are actually 8 “Equinoxes and Solstices”, what with the Northern and Southern hemispheres and all.

And, to think that sometimes I have nothing to write about……
